NEW rivalry system implemented for WWE 2K23 Universe Mode

A major issue in this mode has finally been fixed

Universe Mode is undoubtedly one of the most loved modes in WWE 2K23, with this feature allowing you to fully mould and create your own WWE universe.

From creating shows to crowning new champions, Universe Mode is the ultimate sandbox that lets your imagination run wild.

With WWE 2K23 just around the corner, we have now seen features revealed for all of the game's major modes, with Universe Mode the latest to be announced.

One of the main issues that players had with Universe Mode was the way that cut-scenes would play at random times during rivalries.

Setting up rivalries is a unique way to make your Universe feel truly special.

You can choose the intensity of the rivalry and how often the two will face off, but they all seemed to play out the same.

This year, however, that looks to have changed, with 2K Games introducing a new rivalry system that looks to have fixed this major issue.

A new momentum resource will be added to WWE 2K23, allowing players to gain momentum as they progress through their rivalries.

Momentum will be distributed depending on match performance and results, with the victorious superstar set to win more of the resource.

This momentum can then be used to perform different rival actions heading into matches.

This could range anything from a sneak attack to a full-on backstage brawl, all of which can now be performed thanks to this new momentum system.

Cashing in this resource should therefore trigger cut-scenes in a more authentic way, giving your Universe Mode a far more cinematic feel.

Your momentum points can also be used to determine the outcome of matches if you choose to simulate them.

Finally fixing a long-standing frustration in the Universe Mode community, players will no doubt be delighted to hear of this change.

The shift to a more focused rivalry system should allow for different stories to play out across your Universe Mode and always keep things feeling fresh.

From small rivalries to WrestleMania title bouts, we're happy to see Universe Mode receiving the TLC it deserves - pun very much intended.

We were fortunate enough to get our hands on an early build of WWE 2K23, giving us the opportunity to try out basic matches, the new showcase mode and the brand-new War Games mode.

One thing is for sure, WWE 2K23 raises the stakes and is prepared to break new boundaries in order to take the franchise to the next level.
